The Kevin Siebold Bass

Kevin Siebold bass

This is a modified Twiggy by Kevin Siebold of Krappy Guitars. After playing it for the last two days, I can't bring myself to refer to it as a Krappy bass, so I'm going to call it a Siebold.

Yes, it was cheap. The tone may not be everyone's cup of tea, but I like my coffee with grinds at the bottom, and I like my sound growly.

That's a passive pickup, and the bridge and saddle are no-nonsense aluminum. The fretboard is Brazilian cherry, which has a nice feel and resonance. Given the small body, this thing is light. I'm guessing around 2.5lbs. That's light compared to an 11lb Fender.

Intonation is dead-on, and the action is nice and low. The woods are nicely matched, and the neck runs the whole length of the instrument. A few folks have mentioned that it looks a bit like the old Steinbergers, but it's far more handsome.

The sound is nicely rounded, with an aggressive but smooth character across the full range. I've played basses costing four times as much that didn't sound or play this consistently.
